Rose wood
Rose wood belongs to the Genus Dalbergia species. The wood has a strong sweet smell, which persists over many years, explaining the name ‘rosewood’. Some trees become canopy trees up to 30 m high.
Rose wood is a highly regarded rainforest tree from various countries in the world like Australia, India, Thailand and Brazil. It has a very fragrant and dense grain near the core, however the outer sapwood is soft and porous. It is very durable and stronger than teak and used for quality furnishings. The wood gets an excellent polish which makes it suitable for e.g. guitars, recorders, billiard cues, chess sets and luxury furniture.
